As good as Original Medicare is, it doesn’t cover everything. To protect yourself from high health care costs, consider a Medicare Advantage plan, like the ones offered by Peoples Health. 

Also known as Medicare Part C, Medicare Advantage combines Part A (hospital insurance) and Part B (medical coverage), such as doctor’s visits and outpatient services, into one plan. Many Medicare Advantage plans also include Part D–prescription drug coverage. Most Medicare Advantage plans from Peoples Health also include extra benefits, like: worldwide urgent and emergency care, routine dental and vision coverage, and gym memberships. Unlike Medicare supplement plans, a Medicare Advantage plan from Peoples Health is an all-inclusive plan, making your health insurance easy and convenient. These rich healthcare benefits make Peoples Health one of the most popular Medicare Advantage plans in Louisiana.

Each year, all Medicare health plans, including Peoples Health, have a chance to make changes to benefits for the coming year. We are paid by Medicare to provide you with your benefits. We use the payment from Medicare to determine what your costs are, and the higher the payment from Medicare, the more cost savings we can pass along to you. Our goal is to keep costs low and offer you as low a plan premium as possible. One of the reasons that Peoples Health is able to offer such good benefits for 2021 is because our star rating from Medicare is 4.5 stars — making Peoples Health the highest rated Medicare Advantage plans in Louisiana. A higher star rating increases our payment from Medicare and helps us pass along better benefits to you.

Medicare uses the term “dual-eligible” for people who qualify for Medicare and Medicaid. Peoples Health offers to dual-eligibles what Medicare calls “special needs plans.”

Our special needs plans are available to anyone who has both Medicare and medical assistance from the state or Louisiana Medicaid. Some companies that offer these special needs plans require dual-eligibles to have full coverage from Medicaid to join the plan. Peoples Health special needs plans, however, are available to those with full Medicaid coverage as well as those who have partial Medicaid coverage (for example, Medicaid pays their Part B premium).

Many people with Medicaid have faced tremendous hurdles to achieve good health throughout their lives. We’ve designed our special needs plans to help lower or remove those hurdles through enhanced benefits and coordinated care.

Plans are insured through UnitedHealthcare Insurance Company or one of its affiliated companies. For Medicare Advantage Plans: A Medicare Advantage organization with a Medicare contract. For Dual Special Needs Plans: A Medicare Advantage organization with a Medicare contract and a contract with the State Medicaid Program. Enrollment in the plan depends on the plan's contract renewal. Every year, Medicare evaluates plans based on a 5-star rating system. Peoples Health is rated 4.5 out of 5 stars for 2021. The “highest-rated” designation is based on the Medicare star ratings for Medicare Advantage and Special Needs Plans listed in the CMS publication “Medicare & You 2021.”
